Three interesting extensions to enjoy a real Web 2.0 experience with OpenOffice 3.0

After more or less a month from its release, the new OpenOffice 3.0 is receiving tons of positive comments. Anyway, this week, in our Freeware page, we have posted some brief notes abut three different extensions which are able to improve your effectivenss in office routines. First of all we have ooo2gd a simple menu bar which allows you to directly upload or download all kind of documents from Google Documents and Zoho. The second one is the Sun PDF Import Extension which has been created to allow minimal but useful changes to PDF documents. After few minutes we were able to make some interesting changes to a complex PDF documents with just a couple of clicks and export the result “into a hybrid PDF file, which is a PDF with the embedded source file asODF “. Last but not least we tested Sun Presentation Minimizer: an effective extensions which cuts the size of presentations reducing, for example, the image sizes. Using Sun Presentation Minimizer you will be able to simply and freely decide what kind of changes you want to make to your multimedia files contained in the presentations. To conclude it is necessary to focus your attention on the feature that also allows Sun Presentation Minimizer to work on Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.  In few words we think that these extensions are guaranteed to be 100% satisfactory!! How to publish and share nice pdf documents, newsletters or magazines using Scribd.com and Issuu.com

Issuu logoScribd LogoMore than one year ago we wrote a short post about creating pdf files using Openoffice (also in its portable version), now, in our Freeware Page, we would like to talk about two interesting Web 2.0 websites which allow you to publish and share your documents. On one hand, Scribd.com is an interesting website you can use to upload and share files in the following formats: Microsoft Word (doc, docx), Microsoft Powerpoint (ppt, pptx, pps), Microsoft Excel (xls, xlsx), PDF (pdf, ps), Open Office Documents (odt, odp, sxw, sxi, etc.), Images (jpg, png, gif, tiff) and Text Documents (txt, rtf). On the other hand, Issuu.com is very intuitive to use but very effective. Using Issuu you can upload a pdf files transforming it into a “cool magazine format”. In few words, you can modify, with just a click, your pdf file in a browsable magazine, with active links and notes. A new feature from our blog!

CB FlakesThis post is unusual because today we have not written a review about Linux or freeware but we are launching a new feature in our Blogroll: CB Flakes which is just our personalized page of Pageflakes (a web 2.0 web aggregator). In CB Flakes we selected few interesting (we hope) RSS/Atom feeds about Linux, freeware, e-commerce, technology and science (in general). Moreover we added some widgets we think could be useful for everyone (World Time Clock, Google Map, Universal Blog Search, Flickr, Wikipedia, YouTube, Aruna Send, Document to PDF, Sudoku and Comics). Online Bookmark ManagerToday, in our Freeware Page we have posted some useful tips about mergering bookmarks stored in different PCs. Online Bookmark Manager, a terrific add-on for Firefox, allows you to Export, Import or simply Synchronize your bookmarks in just few clicks. I sincerely solved many headaches because, before using Online Bookmark Manager, I wasn’t able to merge all the bookmarks I had stored in my PCs during last three years. Last but not least this software is multiplatform, very easy to use, full of features and you can also choose what bookmarks you want to share and what you want to keep private. MP3Gain: a good software to normalize peaks in your MP3 music

MP3Gain LogoToday in our Freeware page, we posted a brief review (in Spanish) about MP3Gain: a very powerful freeware to manage the volume of your mp3 (and AAC-experimental-) collections. Using MP3Gain you can easily adjusts mp3 files so that they have the same volume during your listening. MP3Gain is better than other similar software because, thanks to its direct encoding, you haven’t any quality losts in your collections. Simple to use and really powerful!

Ajax 13: the new online multiplatform (Windows, Linux, MAC OS X) office suite for Firefox users!

AJAX13Today, in our Freeware Page, we posted some brief notes about a wonderful site we recently discovered: Ajax 13. This site offers to everyone (and without the free registration – if you prefer -) the possibility to create and save documents, spreadsheets, presentations, mind mapping docs and to listen to music using Ajax tunes. This new site, created in 2006, has big potentiality of fast growth because the services it offers are potentially more powerful and versatile than in “Google Docs & Spreadsheet“. Ajax 13 is a multiplatform web based platform written using the AJAX based methodology. We tried Ajax 13 features and we confess that in our tests we found some little minor problems but in the end we were able to save on our desktop all the files we created. We really think Ajax 13 is something to try!

Hoversnap: perhaps the best portable freeware for professional snapshot tool.

HoversnapHi you all and sorry for a so long silence. Today, in our freeware page we posted a review about Hoversnap, a portable terrific snapshot tool for Windows. This freeware is very light – just 395 Kb- but very powerful! Try it and you will be delighted by this freeware!
We promised you a special gift for the Christmas period and we really are almost ready (sorry for the delay, I think we will be ready in more or less 10 days..). The gift is a collection of portable software which can be used on a 1 GB USB pen. This collection (for Windows) is thought to be very useful and simple to use, you have to just download it and copy on your USB key. See you soon!

IZArc: the best portable free software to manage all archives (zip, tar, etc..)

IZArcThis week we have tested IZArc in our freeware page. IZArc is a terrific freeware to manage many (perhaps I should say: “All”) different formats of archive. IZArc has a very clean interface and in few minutes (after few tests) you are able to use all its features. Using IZArc you can also have a quick look in ISO archives before burning them and directly scan them using your favourite anti-virus. I hope that IZArc developers would create a Linux version in the future because this freeware is really one of the most useful and tiny software I discovered in last months (now it is possible to use IZArc in Linux through Wine). In our Linux page we posted a review about LiveLook, a multiplatform (Linux, MAC OS X, Windows) on-line service to remote control your computers. Unfortunately this web based service will be free for just few more weeks but for the moment it works greatly. AddThis

Watch your DVDs in the PSP using AutoGK and 3GP Converter!

PSPToday, in our freeware page, we have posted some lines about converting DVD in PSP videos. The freeware conversion method we described is one of the easiest you can use (if not, please, let us know your favourite method). Anyway, after the installation of two strong freewares, AutoGK and 3GP Converter (both very simple and easy to use) you can watch the DVDs you bought on the PSP. The first time, you have to install and correctly configure these freewares (more or less you spend 30-40 minutes) but after that, all the conversion sessions will not be too long (if you are not a video quality “puritan”). Last but not least… be connected with us during the Christmas period… we are planning to post a special review for USB portable software (more precisely, freeware). Thanks to you all! AddThis

GreatNews: a free portable RSS reader

Today in our Freeware page we posted a review about the beta version of GreatNews: the simpliest (but most efficient) RSS reader I have never tested before. I strongly raccomend the use of GreatNews also because you can easily install this freeware in a USB Key.
