IZArc: the best portable free software to manage all archives (zip, tar, etc..)

IZArcThis week we have tested IZArc in our freeware page. IZArc is a terrific freeware to manage many (perhaps I should say: “All”) different formats of archive. IZArc has a very clean interface and in few minutes (after few tests) you are able to use all its features. Using IZArc you can also have a quick look in ISO archives before burning them and directly scan them using your favourite anti-virus. I hope that IZArc developers would create a Linux version in the future because this freeware is really one of the most useful and tiny software I discovered in last months (now it is possible to use IZArc in Linux through Wine). In our Linux page we posted a review about LiveLook, a multiplatform (Linux, MAC OS X, Windows) on-line service to remote control your computers. Unfortunately this web based service will be free for just few more weeks but for the moment it works greatly. AddThis

Watch your DVDs in the PSP using AutoGK and 3GP Converter!

PSPToday, in our freeware page, we have posted some lines about converting DVD in PSP videos. The freeware conversion method we described is one of the easiest you can use (if not, please, let us know your favourite method). Anyway, after the installation of two strong freewares, AutoGK and 3GP Converter (both very simple and easy to use) you can watch the DVDs you bought on the PSP. The first time, you have to install and correctly configure these freewares (more or less you spend 30-40 minutes) but after that, all the conversion sessions will not be too long (if you are not a video quality “puritan”). Last but not least… be connected with us during the Christmas period… we are planning to post a special review for USB portable software (more precisely, freeware). Thanks to you all! AddThis

GreatNews: a free portable RSS reader

Today in our Freeware page we posted a review about the beta version of GreatNews: the simpliest (but most efficient) RSS reader I have never tested before. I strongly raccomend the use of GreatNews also because you can easily install this freeware in a USB Key.

Wine.. for Linux; free file converter and free file hosting services!

Hi everyone, we are sorry for our delay in writing new posts! This week in our Linux page (in Spanish) you can find some new posts. The first post is about Wine and the easiest way (we hope, let us know…) to install this program in Linux OS. The second post concerns zamzar.com, an useful web-page where you can easily convert your files (image, doc, music, video) to different formats (the use of a temporary email address is recommended if you believe it’s not sure to spread your personal email address). Last but not least, we have posted a brief review about Mediafire: a free file hosting site (practical and easy to use). See you next week! AddThis

Autopackage: how to easily install software in Linux

This week we posted an interesting review on Autopackage, perhaps the best program to install software in Linux. Autopackage is easy, fast and compatible with all the Linux versions. We think you all (not only the Linux beginners) will really appreciate this freeware. Please, let us know! We added also a short post about “Punto Informatico“, an Italian free newspaper which dedicates a huge section about freeware (and, of course, it is also possible to download all the freeware it talks about!!). See you next week!

Lyx, a multiplatform (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows), advanced document processor

This week, in our Freeware Page, we posted a review about Lyx. Lyx is an wonderful multiplatform (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows) word processor which has many advanced features. Personally I suggest to use Lyx only if you are looking for a powerful freeware which is able to create advanced documents (DVI, pdf in its 7.0 version). The results, you can obtain using Lyx, are amazing and very professional. The first time you will use Lyx you have to spend some hours to understand the different “philosophy” behind this freeware but after the necessary training you are very satisfied about the documents you have created.

Multiplatform (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X) portable PDF creator.

Today it is possible to create free pdf documents without paying hundreds of dollars in licenses.

The solution is OpenOffice.

Moreover, it is also possible to have a portable pdf creator with you. This freeware is “OpenOffice.org Portable”, the portable version of the famous text editor developed by the open community and Sun Microsystem.
In the freeware section we posted a review about this particular feature of OpenOffice. AddThis

Multiplatform (Windows, Linux and Mac OS X) software.

This week we invite you to visit our brief reviews about Xnview, and GIMPShop, two essential graphic freewares for professional or common users.
These softwares are freewares and multiplatform so they are ideal for the daily use (in your office or simply at home). In particular XnView is a graphic reader and converter which can be used directly from an USB Key (yes, it’s possible to have a portable, complete graphic reader always with you!).
Please, don’t forget our specific Linux page with two, very interesting, new reviews about Elisa (a project to create a powerful media center for Linux) and about the Kubuntu package manager (to easily install new programs).
Last but not least, our special thanks (and review) to Tyberius who suggested us his good Windows Alt-Tab replacement: SmartTab (freeware, of course).
See you soon!
