Start 2016 with a bunch of unusual Linux OS!

linux-distributions-to-look-forward-in-2016

What’s better than testing? For me nothing!

For this reason, let me introduce some “unusual” Linux distribution proposed by Jesse Afolabi @Jesseflb via Techmint.

VeltOS and PapyrOS are based on Arch but the last one is in its pre-alpha testing so it’s not suggested for beginners.

Moreover, we may decide to begin 2016 with Korora that is still one of my favorite projects also after so many years since the first release.

Last but not least, we have Solus OS 2 that it is not the most Linux distribution I tested but it is stable and really well built.

Happy 2016!

MobaLiveCD: how to test Linux distros directly from Windows

Today, in our Linux Page (in Spanish) we posted a brief review about MobaLiveCD: a freeware which allows you to freely test new Linux Distro using Windows. MobaLiveCd uses Qemu to work; personally, I think that Qemu is one of the best and lightest open source processor emulator and virtualizer you can find today. Qemu is easy to use and, also more important, it “achieves near native performances by executing the guest code directly on the host CPU” so the results you can obtain using MobaLiveCD are very impressive and I believe that  the performances are really comparable to a complete installation. MobaLiveCd allows you to spare your time because all the new Linux distros can be tested with just few clicks running the .iso through it. I personally recommend this freeware also because it light and it can be directly used from a USB key. Something really interesting! AddThis mp3 link

An alternative and more effective way to kill a locked program in Kubuntu: using the PID

We use Linux because the possibility of crashes is lower than in other OS but sometimes some programs decide to lock themselves causing different problems to our PC usability.. When it happens we usually decide to use ksysguard but it doesn’t end our program. Today, in our Linux Page we have added a post about another way to solve these kind of matters using the PID. The post is short but we think it could be very useful for many Linux users. In fact, using the PID to kill a program is less time waster than restart the pc. See you soon and thanks for your comments! AddThis

SuperGamer2: a video game bootable Linux DVD for all!

SuperGamerToday, Frank posted in our Linux Page a brief but effective post about SuperGamer2 which is the new -revised and improved- version of SuperGamer; perhaps, one of the most interesting bootable Linux versions created for video players. This DVD Linux is full of very interesting games and its compatibility is higher than never. In fact the people from SuperGamer have updated the hardware drivers and solved some problems they discovered in the first version. Now SuperGamer (based on PCLinuxOS) can be used in more motherboards than in the past and I think they are working on a better version of this wonderful bootable DVD Linux!

IEs4Linux: a wonderful solution to have Internet Explorer running in Linux!

IE and LinuxToday, in the Linux Page, Frank has posted a very interesting review about IEs4Linux. In fact sometimes we have to use IE in websites created only for IE. The post is very detailed and contains all the instruction to install IEs4Linux in Ubuntu and Kubuntu. Obviously, we personally prefer Firefox but IE is an essential feature to “surf” the web also when we use Linux.

Ubuntu Christmas editon 2006 – DVD version

UbuntuIn the Linux page we posted a short review about – Ubuntu Christmas edition 2006 -. This fantastic version of Ubuntu is a live DVD which can be freely installed on your PC. This edition is particularly full of useful features, moreover themes & graphics are very accurate. I strongly believe that Ubuntu Xmas Edition 2006 is one of the best Linux you can try (or better install on your pc) if you are planning to use Linux as your main OS. If you are a beginner you have just to put Xmas Ubuntu into the DVD reader and you can enter Linux world!
