Crystal Diamond: one of the most impressive icon Theme for KDE!

Crystal DiamondToday, in our Linux Page (in Spanish) we have written few lines about a very particular icon Theme for KDE and Gnome (not till ready at the moment): Crystal Diamond. This icon Theme is really complete and the graphical effects are bright and very smooth. Moreover, the creator (an Italian geek) has developed different mods for the main Linux distribution (Ubuntu, Fedora, Suse, Mandriva RedHat, Debian, Gentoo etc..). We like this Theme also because it contains different icons for any application, so it is possible to 100% personalize our desktop and continuously change it tasting always new graphical solutions. How to install Ubuntu 7.10 on a USB Key!

Ubuntu 7.10After only few days from the release of Ubuntu 7.10, the pendrivelinux.com has released the new manual to install this new version of the famous Linux distro on a USB key and we have posted a short but effective review about this new manual on our Linux Page (in Spanish). As usual the instruction contained on the site are very clear and simple to follow. We have been able to create our Ubuntu 7.10 Key in less than 40 minutes and without any particular problem. Unfortunately, we were not able to save the changes we had made to personalize our USB key but we really enjoy the possibilities offered by a so powerful OS as Ubuntu (if someone knows how to save the changes, please, post a comment – Thanks). Strongly recommended! AddThis mp3 link

NimbleX: a customizable Linux (Slackware based) Live CD

NimbleXIn our Linux Page we have posted a brief review about NimbleX: a customizable Live CD based on Slackware. To build your own distro you have only to connect to NimbleX site and follow the simple instructions on the screen. The number of available programs is not huge but with a couple of tests you can built a very good personalized Live CD without knowing anything about programming (unfortunately, it is possible to create only one Live CD every day). You can also customize the background and the boot audio greeting using your favorite images and messages. NimbleX is so easy and fast to use that it’s a pleasure to use it. Recommended! AddThis

Krusader 1.80.0: an advanced advanced twin panel file manager for KDE!

KrusaderThis week, in our Linux Page (in Spanish) we have posted a brief but complete review about Krusader: one of the best file manager for KDE. As we all know, in the next Ubuntu 7.10 we will find the new Dolphin beyond to the traditional Konqueror (the KDE file manager and universal viewer) but we would like to prefer to keep your attention on this twin panel file manager. The complete list of Krusader’s features is so long that we prefer to underline just the main ones. In fact, two of the most interesting features are the remote connection manager and the special function for synchronizing directories which are very simple to use. Moreover the possibility of creating a customized menu gets Krusader very user friendly. Recommended! AddThis

Qtpfsgui: a terrific multiplatform (Linux, Windows, MAC OS X) HDR imaging program.

TuxToday, in our Linux Page (in Spanish) we have post a review about Qtpfsgui: a very powerful program to create HDR images. Qtpfsgui supports the following HDR formats: OpenEXR, Radiance RGBE, Tiff (16bit, 32bit and LogLuvand), Raw image and PFS native. Obviously also LDR extensions are well managed: JPEG, PNG, PPM, PBM, and TIFF(8 bit). Using this program you can easily create terrific looking HDR files from a set of images (formats: JPEG, TIFF 8bit and 16bit, RAW) of the same scene taken at different exposure setting. The program is very easy to use and after just few minutes you learn how to use it properly. AcetoneISO and GnomeBaker: two terrific CD/DVD image manipulators for Ubuntu!

AcetoneISOToday, in our Linux Page (in Spanish) we have posted a brief but effective post about AcetoneISO2 which is the Ubuntu version of one of the most powerful CD/DVD image manipulators for Linux. Acetone ISO2 works also with NRG, BIN, MDF and CCD proprietary extensions and it can convert them in free ISO images ready to be ripped. AcetoneISO has many features but one of the most attractive fore us is the possibility to encrypt/decrypt an image. We also appreciated the feature which lets you to split/merge your image in different segments. We successfully tested it without big problems but, unfortunately, we read on the net that sometimes there are some unfixed bugs so, if you are in trouble, we suggest to try also GnomeBaker. This program is more stable and very easy to use but contains less features than AcetoneISO. Enjoy them! AddThis

Neo 1973: the free, opensource, Linux based anti-IPhone!

Neo 1973

Last July 9, the Openmoco Inc. (a Taiwanese company) launched Neo 1973 developer edition. Today, in our Linux Page we have posted a complete review about the main features contained in this quad band, GPRS enabled mobile. The consumer version is planned for next October and we hope there will be a decrease in its actual price (USD 300). The many features contained in this mobile are -more or less- the same that in the IPhone but the main difference is that Neo 1973 is based on 100% open source software and it can easily opened for any desired hardware modification (only if you are expert hackers). The 2.8″ VGA TFT color touchscreen display is a little bit smaller than in the IPhone but it is very clear and the images look sharp. Bluetooth 2.0, AGPS and a USB 1.1 port are integrated. Last but not least, Neo 1973 supports high quality audio codecs and a Micro SD slot which can be used to upgrade its default 128 MB RAM and 64 MB NAND Flash memory. AddThis
