Speech Recognition Engines fo Linux: Perlbox and CMUSphinx

Today, in the Linux page you find a post about two different speech recognition programs: Perlbox and CMUSphinx. We think that these voice enabled applications could be useful if you want to fast the way you use your desktop. We tested them in English and the results were pretty good. We suggest you to try them even if you haven’t any specific needs to use them. At least, you will spend some interesting hours testing the softwares our sons will use in next generation computers.

Watch your DVDs in the PSP using AutoGK and 3GP Converter!

PSP Today, in our freeware page, we have posted some lines about converting DVD in PSP videos. The freeware conversion method we described is one of the easiest you can use (if not, please, let us know your favourite method). Anyway, after the installation of two strong freewares, AutoGK and 3GP Converter (both very simple and easy to use) you can watch the DVDs you bought on the PSP. The first time, you have to install and correctly configure these freewares (more or less you spend 30-40 minutes) but after that, all the conversion sessions will not be too long (if you are not a video quality “puritan”). Last but not least… be connected with us during the Christmas period… we are planning to post a special review for USB portable software (more precisely, freeware). Thanks to you all!

How to create a tar (or gz, bz2, tar.gz, tar.bz2, zip, lha, arj, zoo, rar) file in Linux.

Thank you to Yietzel who posted a comment asking us some information about how to create a tar file. In the Linux page we created a short but effective post about this topic. This short manual (yes it is a manual because we included also the instructions to create: gz, bz2, tar.gz, tar.bz2, zip, lha, arj, zoo, rar files) is short but very clear and easy to use. Kororaa AIGLXgl 0.3 Live CD, put a 3D Linux in your pc!

Kororaa Frank has reviewed a bootable Linux CD called Kororaa. This particular Linux version (derived from Gentoo Linux philosophy) has a fantastic and efficient 3D graphics. In particular you will be astonished (we really were surprised) by the 3D desktop supported in Kororaa. The most interesting thing is that you can use this bootable Linux CD also if you have not a “last generation”, powerful graphic card! We hope you will enjoy Kororaa and.. please.. if you want let us know your point of view writing some comments about this Linux version. Thanks.

GreatNews: a free portable RSS reader

Today in our Freeware page we posted a review about the beta version of GreatNews: the simpliest (but most efficient) RSS reader I have never tested before. I strongly raccomend the use of GreatNews also because you can easily install this freeware in a USB Key.

Hi everyone, we are sorry for our delay in writing new posts! This week in our Linux page (in Spanish) you can find some new posts. The first post is about Wine and the easiest way (we hope, let us know…) to install this program in Linux OS. The second post concerns zamzar.com, an useful web-page where you can easily convert your files (image, doc, music, video) to different formats (the use of a temporary email address is recommended if you believe it’s not sure to spread your personal email address). Last but not least, we have posted a brief review about Mediafire: a free file hosting site (practical and easy to use). See you next week!

Autopackage: how to easily install software in Linux

This week we posted an interesting review on Autopackage, perhaps the best program to install software in Linux. Autopackage is easy, fast and compatible with all the Linux versions. We think you all (not only the Linux beginners) will really appreciate this freeware. Please, let us know! We added also a short post about “Punto Informatico“, an Italian free newspaper which dedicates a huge section about freeware (and, of course, it is also possible to download all the freeware it talks about!!). Lyx, a multiplatform (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows), advanced document processor

This week, in our Freeware Page, we posted a review about Lyx. Lyx is an wonderful multiplatform (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows) word processor which has many advanced features. Personally I suggest to use Lyx only if you are looking for a powerful freeware which is able to create advanced documents (DVI, pdf in its 7.0 version). The results, you can obtain using Lyx, are amazing and very professional. The first time you will use Lyx you have to spend some hours to understand the different “philosophy” behind this freeware but after the necessary training you are very satisfied about the documents you have created.

Free SMS and Media Converter web services.

This week, in the Linux page, we have wrote new brief (but, as usual, effective) posts about two free online services. The first is about Free SMS, an online service which let us sending free (gratis) SMS in different European countries. The SMS will be shorter than usual due to advertising inserted in it but it is completely free of charge…

The second post is about a good online Media Converter which has often helped us to solve everyday problems with different media formats sent by colleagues and friend.
