Wine.. for Linux; free file converter and free file hosting services!

Hi everyone, we are sorry for our delay in writing new posts! This week in our Linux page (in Spanish) you can find some new posts. The first post is about Wine and the easiest way (we hope, let us know…) to install this program in Linux OS. The second post concerns zamzar.com, an useful web-page where you can easily convert your files (image, doc, music, video) to different formats (the use of a temporary email address is recommended if you believe it’s not sure to spread your personal email address). Last but not least, we have posted a brief review about Mediafire: a free file hosting site (practical and easy to use). See you next week! AddThis

Autopackage: how to easily install software in Linux

This week we posted an interesting review on Autopackage, perhaps the best program to install software in Linux. Autopackage is easy, fast and compatible with all the Linux versions. We think you all (not only the Linux beginners) will really appreciate this freeware. Please, let us know! We added also a short post about “Punto Informatico“, an Italian free newspaper which dedicates a huge section about freeware (and, of course, it is also possible to download all the freeware it talks about!!). See you next week!

Lyx, a multiplatform (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows), advanced document processor

This week, in our Freeware Page, we posted a review about Lyx. Lyx is an wonderful multiplatform (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows) word processor which has many advanced features. Personally I suggest to use Lyx only if you are looking for a powerful freeware which is able to create advanced documents (DVI, pdf in its 7.0 version). The results, you can obtain using Lyx, are amazing and very professional. The first time you will use Lyx you have to spend some hours to understand the different “philosophy” behind this freeware but after the necessary training you are very satisfied about the documents you have created.

Free SMS and Media Converter web services.

This week, in the Linux page, we have wrote new brief (but, as usual, effective) posts about two free online services. The first is about Free SMS, an online service which let us sending free (gratis) SMS in different European countries. The SMS will be shorter than usual due to advertising inserted in it but it is completely free of charge…

The second post is about a good online Media Converter which has often helped us to solve everyday problems with different media formats sent by colleagues and friend.

We hope you find these two posts useful and, please, if you don’t agree with what we wrote (or you use a better software-freeware) , don’t hesitate to leave a comment!

Multiplatform (Windows, Linux and Mac OS X) software.

This week we invite you to visit our brief reviews about Xnview, and GIMPShop, two essential graphic freewares for professional or common users.
These softwares are freewares and multiplatform so they are ideal for the daily use (in your office or simply at home). In particular XnView is a graphic reader and converter which can be used directly from an USB Key (yes, it’s possible to have a portable, complete graphic reader always with you!).
Please, don’t forget our specific Linux page with two, very interesting, new reviews about Elisa (a project to create a powerful media center for Linux) and about the Kubuntu package manager (to easily install new programs).
Last but not least, our special thanks (and review) to Tyberius who suggested us his good Windows Alt-Tab replacement: SmartTab (freeware, of course).
See you soon!

New Linux page!

Thank you all for your comments.
A special “thank you” to Francesco who is now sharing this blog experience with me.
As you noticed, we decided to open a new linux page (in Spanish) posted by Frank (Francesco) and we moved his comments (about linux LIVE CDs and new linux mobile-PDA software) in the linux page.
I hope that you will appreciate this new page and the related posts.
Again thank you to you all!

Portable freewares

Many (All, I could say) freewares I am talking about in this pages are ready to be used directly on a removable memory. Today the 70-80% of freewares can be used without the installation on the personal computer. In this way it’s possible to have a selection of freewares (or, if you want, paid softwares) with your own personal settings directly on a USB (or removable HD, micro vault key, etc..) and bring it with you everywhere.
Before using new freewares, I suggest to scan them using an antivirus (e.g. Avast Home Edition– freeware) and a good antispyware (e.g. a-squared, freeware, is very effective). For people who don’t want to take any risks, I also suggest to scan the freewares using an online antimalware detector (e.g. personally, I use the free scanner by Panda software).
Just to sum up the brief notes I wrote during the last month I would like to remind you to visit the freeware page where you will find some personal review about Essential PIM, Pricelesswarehome, Foxit Reader, OpenOffice, The Open CD, PDF Creator, Juice.
For comments, suggestions or to criticize what I say, please don’t hesitate to leave a message in the freeware section.
