After only few days from the release of Ubuntu 7.10, the pendrivelinux.com has released the new manual to install this new version of the famous Linux distro on a USB key and we have posted a short but effective review about this new manual on our Linux Page (in Spanish). As usual the instruction contained on the site are very clear and simple to follow. We have been able to create our Ubuntu 7.10 Key in less than 40 minutes and without any particular problem. Unfortunately, we were not able to save the changes we had made to personalize our USB key but we really enjoy the possibilities offered by a so powerful OS as Ubuntu (if someone knows how to save the changes, please, post a comment – Thanks). Strongly recommended!

Pingdom Tools: a couple of “must have” online tools for blogger and webmasters!
Today, in our Linux Page (in Spanish) we have posted a recension about Pindom Tools: two useful (and free) on-line tools which can be very useful for blogger and webmaster. Using Pingdom Tools you can have a fast report about the loading time of your web-pages. The Pingdom report is very easy to understand, with just one glance you are able to better understand the hierarchy and the load order of the graphic objects in your blog/site. Using Pingdom tools you can dramatically improve the time for loading your site and change all the objects, scripts, images or plugins which slow your sites. Last but not least, Pingdom offers an accurate ping and trouceroute service to better understand your network response time and track down possible errors.

Deezer.com: free legal music to listen and “use”!
This week, in our Linux page we post a brief review about deezer.com a French website which offers free music to listen or use in your website. Using deezer.com is very simple: you have to create a new account (just few personal data -email, country…- are required) and you can start to listen to your music. The audio quality is good and we haven’t found any problem also after many hours of broadcasting. Moreover Deezer has a special feature which allows you to directly insert your favourite playlist (with an included player) in your blog (all this is free). Last but not least you can buy and download the songs you like using the integrated iTunes feature. Good site, good free features!
Lubi: the Linux based Ubuntu Installer
Lubi is a useful tool for all people who like to experiment different Linux OS on their PCs. In particular Lubi has been thought to let you install Ubuntu in just few clicks and without risking annoying “secondary effects” on your computer. In our Linux Page (in Spanish) we have posted a small but effective review with all the necessary links to the Lubi project and we have also listed all the Linux OS (PCLinuxOS 2007 32-bit, openSUSE 10.2 32-bit, Gentoo 2007.0 32-bit, etc..) already tested for a safe -Lubi- use. We strongly recommend Lubi for all users who want to deeply test Ubuntu (and its features) without starting from the Live CD.
How to upgrade or repair your Macintosh or Ipod: a quick reference guide to useful websites!
Today, in our Freeware Page we have added a new (and very detailed) post with useful links to websites containing terrific instructions to upgrade or repair Ipod, Apple desktops and laptops. These websites can be useful for the people (like us) who do not desire to throw away their Macintosh only because a new model has been launched. Last but not least we have decided to insert also some links to websites which have Macintosh news and guides about regenerating old notebook batteries. If you have some more useful and free websites to suggest, please, write a comment!
Ubuntu 7.04: a complete Linux on a USB PenDrive
Today, in our Linux Page, we want talk again about bootable Linux on pendrives. This time we discovered that the guys from http://pendrivelinux.com/ released a new USB portable Linux: Ubuntu 6.10. We tried to use Ubuntu 7.04 instead 6.10 and… it works (in our test: Windows installation on 1GB pendrive)! As for Knoppix 5.1.0 (see our post on January 26, 2007) also this portable version of Ubuntu 7.04 is easy to be installed on a USB key and it’s full of interesting features. For the installation you have to carefully follow the instruction contained on the specific pendrivelinux pages (more instruction also available for installation using Linux). Please don’t be worried after the first reading because all the necessary steps are well explained and if you follow them it’s really not possible to make mistakes! Enjoy it!
Nicotine+ (for Linux and Windows) and Linux Mepis 6.5 in Spanish
This week, in our Linux Page, we posted two interesting reviews
by Frank. In the first we analyze the new Mepis 6.5 in its Spanish version. The implements contained in this new version are impressive: Mepis 6.5 is well structured (the software included can help the users at work as in his-her home goals) and very powerful with its new hardware recognition function. For this reason, we think that in the near future Mepis will become one of the most used Linux between beginners. In the second post, Frank explains how to install Nicotine+ in different Ubuntu (Kubuntu) releases. Nicotine+ is actually considered as the natural heir of the -old- glorious Napster, it’s free and released for both Linux and Windows. Personally I continue to prefer Utorrent but I sincerely believe that Nicotine+ is one of best P2P clients available today, in few words: something to try!
How to solve upgrade problems in Ubuntu: some brief notes.
Yesterday a new version of Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn 7.04) has been released. This new version seems to be more powerful and enjoyable than the 6.10 and we hope it will actively contribute to spread the use of Linux. For people using Ubuntu 6.10, Ubuntu released simple and brief instructions to upgrade fast the OS.
In our Linux Page, we posted a brief tutorial about solving problems generated by an Ubuntu upgrade (this kind of problems is not common but unfortunately sometimes it happens..). The post, inspired some Italian blogs we found on the web, is very simple and effective and we hope it could be useful… in case of emergency. See you soon!
Ubuntu Migration Assistant (UMA) in the new Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn (Beta)
The new 7.04 beta version of Ubuntu was recently released. In few weeks (or less) we will enjoy the new final version which seems to have some new interesting features. The Ubuntu Feisty Fawn version has a new codec wizard to install codecs, a powerful plug and play network sharing function which will be very useful for the evolute home networks where multimedia files are shared in shared external hard disks. In our Linux Page we posted a brief note about the new UbuntuUMA) Migration Assistant (which allows you to import Internet Explorer bookmarks, Firefox favourites, desktop wallpaper, AOL IM contacts, and Yahoo IM contacts directly from your installed Windows OS. I am sure that, in the near future, UMA will be one of the most interesting Ubuntu features for people who want to run a dual-boot system.
